The CSC Scholarship Program
The University of Nebraska Medical Center has been working for many years to develop significant partnerships in China in order to promote collaborations on research, exchanges of faculty and students, and enhance the education systems of both countries. To encourage and improve these partnerships, UNMC established the Asia Pacific Rim Development Program (APRDP) in 2005. As a result, these partnerships have allowed UNMC’s reputation as a world-class institution to develop and flourish.
A major facilitator of UNMC’s partnerships with Chinese institutions has been the China Scholarship Council. The CSC is the Chinese Ministry of Education’s non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to Chinese citizens wishing to study abroad and to foreign citizens wishing to study in China
UNMC, along with other select American universities, has the privilege to host the students that receive financial scholarships through the China Scholarship Council to study internationally. UNMC has hosted approximately 120 Chinese students, scholars and faculty members through this program since 2006, with 50 of those CSC members having already completed their scientific research training or earned their DPT, MD, PhD, or PharmD degree. UNMC looks forward to hosting the many future students, scholars and faculty who will also receive exceptional training under the guidance of UNMC’s remarkable research scientists and hopefully inspire further collaboration post-program.
Educational, scientific, technological, and cultural exchanges have been fostered through these international collaborations which has also allowed for increasing economic and trade cooperation between China and other countries. UNMC and its Asia Pacific Rim Development Program will continue to cultivate these partnerships not only to make advancements in education and research, but to strengthen the friendship and understanding between the people of China and the people of all other countries.
